Overview

Chess: play the classic against the computer

Chess is the definitive strategy game: two armies, perfect information, and more possible games than atoms in the observable universe. This version lets you play a full game against a computer opponent that thinks a few moves ahead — with all the real rules, including castling, en passant, pawn promotion, and check, checkmate and stalemate detection. You play White and move first.

It runs entirely in your browser with a click or a tap: select one of your pieces to see its legal moves highlighted, then choose where to go. There is nothing to install and no account needed — just open the board and play.

Frequently asked questions

How strong is the computer?
It searches a few moves ahead using alpha-beta pruning and values material and central control. It plays a solid casual game — a good sparring partner for improving players, without being unbeatable.
Does it support castling and en passant?
Yes. All special moves are implemented — castling (both sides), en passant captures, and pawn promotion (pawns promote to a queen automatically).
How do I castle?
Select your king and, if castling is legal, the square two files over will be offered as a move. Click it and the rook jumps to the other side automatically.
Is my game uploaded?
No. The whole game, including the computer's thinking, runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
